When will my plants be shipped?
We start shipping in mid April, weather permitting, and
continues until October 15. Please remember that our
shipping season is determined by our spring weather.
We may start a little earlier or you may have to wait a
little longer, we are working with good old Mother Nature
and have no control of her weather whims.
We ship your complete order as close to your preferred
shipping date as possible. Your order is reserved upon
receipt, not by your ship date. Yes, we even ship in the summer.
About your
new plants:
Some plants may arrive looking as if they've just been
pruned. They probably have, particularly late in the spring
shipping season. These plants are not damaged in fact,
pruning encourages dense, lush growth. Regular pruning is
essential in maintaining your plant's vitality. Broken
leaves and bent stems while unsightly are no cause for
alarm. Remember that the plants has been thrown on a truck or
plane and have been halfway around the country. A healthy
plant will have a speedy recover.
How do you grow your plants? We grow our plants from seeds, cuttings and divisions in an
un-heated poly-house, we start them particularly in summer and are over
winter in northern Ohio's zone 5 winters. I never force my
plants to grow un-naturally. So you southern gardens will
have to have a little patients when you order from the
Blossom Farm. By doing this we feel our
consumers receive a hardy rugged plant ready to take on the hard cruel
world. Some plants fail because they were raised in an
artificially perfect environment, so when they are welcomed
to your real garden, they cannot adjust. Most perennials
we offer are well established in a 3.5" container. Please note plants that are shipped in April and early May will
have an excellent root system with little top growth.
What should I do when I get the
order? Open immediately and water well. Put in a shaded area for a
few days.
Plant in a well prepared site,
allowing soil to be even with the existing site. Do not put
mulch around crown of plant. Water in. Do not
over water, many plants are killed by too much kindness.
Always check soil conditions before
watering. Stick finger in soil one inch down, if dry
water, if not check again in a day or two.
